Rules and auto-apply: how Storely picks a template
How to build a rule, the order Storely uses to decide which chart a product gets, and how automatic size and age matching works.
Set a rule once, and Storely keeps applying it as your catalog changes — no re-linking every new product by hand.
Build a rule
- On a template's first screen, set Template type to Rule-based.
- Choose whether products need to match all conditions or any condition.
- Add a condition: pick a field (Product, Collection, Tag, Vendor, Type, or Category), an operator, and a value.
- Watch the live counter as you adjust — it shows exactly how many products are currently included and excluded.
- To keep specific products out no matter what, add them under Exclude by conditions — exclusions always win, even over an exact product match.
- Fill in the size values every matched product should show.
- Click Save template — this saves the rule and applies it to every matching product at the same time.
How Storely decides which template a product gets
- A product only ever carries one chart at a time.
- Once a product matches a rule template correctly, it stays there — editing a different, unrelated template won't reassign it.
- If a product could newly match more than one rule, the most recently updated template wins.
- A chart you set by hand is never overwritten by a rule. Rules only ever touch charts they applied themselves.
- Edit a product's tags, vendor, type, or collections in Shopify and save — Storely automatically re-checks its rules and adds, swaps, or removes the chart. Nothing to re-run yourself.
How sizes and ages get matched automatically
Set this once in Connect fields, and it runs on its own from there.
- Choose your sizes source: a product variant option (recommended) or a product metafield.
- With a variant option, Storely looks for one named to match what you picked, then falls back to one literally called "Size," then one with "size" in the name, then — as a last resort — a single option whose values look like sizes (S/M/L or 6/8/10).
- With a metafield, Storely reads exactly the field you chose, every time.
- Optionally connect an Age metafield — Storely matches each size to its corresponding age automatically.
